One Step Separates

BEHIND THE PROJECT

In a world where architecture transcends its silent form, a powerful collaboration between Zaha Hadid Architects, Refik Anadol gave birth to a global landmark, an honored, award-winning installation at DDP Seoul, Korea. Designed and directed by Black Canvas, the project stands as a memorial monument, a poetic dialogue between architecture and media technology, where data becomes emotion, and structure gains a voice.

Entitled “One Step Separates,” the installation redefines the relationship between space, people, and memory. Hadid’s fluid spatial philosophy merges with Anadol’s digital sensibility under Black Canvas’s creative direction, transforming the DDP into an immersive mediatic platform, an urban bond where architecture and data intertwine, connecting the building to its surroundings and to the collective human experience.

Through interactive corporal sensors and responsive visual projections, the DDP becomes a living canvas, a place where every touch, every movement, evokes the shared memory of the COVID-19 era. Souls appear as flowing lights behind the architectural veil, symbolizing the invisible distance between worlds, between those who remain and those who departed without farewell.

Here, projection mapping transcends its technological boundaries. It becomes a voice for the voiceless, a medium of remembrance, where light, space, and emotion merge into one profound act of storytelling, a testament to Black Canvas’s vision of giving architecture a soul that feels, remembers, and speaks.

VISUAL PERSPECTIVES

THE MIAN CONCEPT

One of our basic desires as humans is the desire to feel as though we are a part of something greater than ourselves. Everything you do has an impact in an interconnected world, our actions and the actions of others are inextricably linked- we are always and forever in a dance of mutual influence to the social creatures surrounded by.

However touching was an important and a simple way to communicate and sharing from each other, communication wasn’t merely restricted just on sharing information but also an exchange of humanity. Time has been carved into two epochs, before and after coronavirus.Covid-19 was a perfect storm of a disease, life has ground to a halt.

Today we are experimenting a new way of living, a new field of perception is defined in which corona virus affected our societal limitations, everything close became so far and vice versa. Therefore, that Zaha Hadid’s project is considered as a set of inter-related spatial relationships, the ddp creates an interactive urban bond that provides an exchange between people and this architectural monument, and people with themself as well. The ddp was deemed as a media-societal interactive canvas that will behave with people through corporal friction paws, deductive sensors will interact with the physical contact to create a responsive memorial visual experience showing the pandemic state which we are currently facing. The emotional poignant content will be sectioned to three main cinematic storytelling themes:

Corporal exchange vanishes, content created by pierre emberador serves the idea of showing the importance of physical relationships in which it was for living beings something simply here and they just take it for granted and how corona virus deprived them of it. Handprints content will be algorithmically simulated to be shown in different scale and position on the whole canvas.

Reshape the limits, the ordinary limits are chaotically changing to create a new borders to be perceptible, a phenomenal new lifestyle is about to begin…

The huddle of souls, to the Ones who left Without even say goodbye, a flowing souls will appear for the observatory as though behind the canvas to behave as a virtual separative veil between the 2 worlds.
